This coming Thursday May 30 please join us for “Bisso na Bisso (Between Us): A Discussion on Music and Collaborative Ethnography in Africa.” Nathaniel will sit on a panel, soukous expert Bob White lectures at 6, and the OBDBI closes it out with the dance party at 8. Senegalese food on hand. Open to the public
The Occidental Brothers’ guitarist Nathaniel Braddock and singer Samba Mapangala were joined backstage in NYC by Congolese guitar legend Diblo Dibala last weekend! An old friend of Samba’s, and hero of Nathaniel’s–the first African cd he bought was his Super Soukous. Who knows what the future could hold…?
The group is back from a weekend New York City! We played shows for in Brooklyn at the Bell House, and at Le Poisson Rouge as part of the awesome Winter Jazz Fest. We also took time to record a special in-studio set for our friend John Kertzer. You can listen to the set online from the page of John’s show, The Best Ambiance. Afropop Worldwide‘s Banning Eyre dropped by the studio to say hello and check the progress of the band–this weekend was the first time out with the new line-up, which also includes Antonio Carella on 2nd guitar.
